Introducing the CoolFly: A brand new product designed specifically for music festivalists who are tired of waking up in a Sauna!

Regardless of when you go to bed, the CoolFly will ensure that you can get a proper sleep without being woken up by early morning sunshine or an overheating tent.

The CoolFly is made out of a composite material that combines a resilient tent fly with a highly reflective metalized film. The result is a material that reflects infrared and visible light without compromising strength or water resistance.

How do you use it?

You simply lay the fly over top of your tent and tie it down using the 8 straps/hook combinations. For best results, it can be used instead of your tent's fly.

Performance

The graph above shows the results of a comparison test in the height of summer heat between two versions of the same tent – one with the CoolFly and one without. Outdoor air temperature is also graphed for comparison. As can be seen, the temperature peaks around 2 PM, at which time the CoolFly reduced the temperature by 15°C (27°F), and never exceeded 28°C (82°F). Without the CoolFly, the temperature reached 45°C (113°F)!

In addition to lowering the temperature inside your tent, the CoolFly also noticeably reduces the brightness, allowing for a much more restful sleep. In fact, you may need a flashlight to find your things, even in the middle of the afternoon!

Features

The CoolFly has two large zippered doors than can be opened and closed with ease to get in and out of your tent.

The two air vents are designed to allow for airflow without letting in rain. Four Guy-line straps ensure structural integrity even in the strongest of winds (Basscoast, Sasquatch [RIP] we're looking at you).

Also Included:

- 1 Tent Bag (that is easy to fit the CoolFly back into!)

- 8 Tent Pegs

Sizing

There are currently two sizes available: one for 1-3 person tents, and one for 4-5 person tents. If you have an irregularly shaped tent such as certain MEC tents, we suggest getting the 4-person size so that it will be large enough to cover any protruding tent components.

If in doubt, order the large version. It can always be adjusted.

SMALL (3-PERSON TENTS)

Example 3 person tents that will have a 'perfect fit' are standard tents such as 'Canadian Tire Outbound 3 Person Tent' , or the 'Coleman Sundome 3 - Person Tent.' This design is very common and is standard among multiple different brands.

Even though it is sized for 3 person tents, it will still be able to work with some 4-person tents. Usually this will simply result in the fly not coming all the way down to touch the ground but can still be pegged down to provide ample coverage.  It has been used on  larger tents when installed at an east-facing angle, effectively blocking all direct sunlight.

Get the small size if:

If your tent is 7.5 feet or shorter in length AND width

AND

Your tent is less than 4.5 feet in height

Small Dimensions:

LARGE (4-5 PERSON TENTS)

Get the large size if:

If your tent is longer than 7.5 feet in length OR width

OR

If your tent is more than 4.5 feet in height

Large Dimensions:

The largest size tent the large CoolFly will comfortably work with is:

-9.5  x 8.5 ft.
-5 ft. in height

If your tent is slightly larger than this, it still may work, it will just be short on the long side. For tents that are smaller than the above dimensions, you can simply peg out the corners further away from your tent to make up for the extra length. The CoolFly's edges can then be rolled up and held in place with clips. This will maximize airflow for all tents.

Expectations

The CoolFly works very well to reduce the temperature and brightness inside your tent. However, it is still subject to the laws of thermodynamics. This means that in the afternoon it will not be colder inside your tent than the outdoor air temperature. On very hot days, it may still get uncomfortable inside your tent in the middle of the afternoon.

However, the morning is when you will get the most relief from the CoolFly. It will reflect the sun's radiation which would normally get absorbed by your tent. This will keep your tent cool while the surrounding air temperature slowly increases, thus buying you a precious few extra hours of cool temperatures before the full afternoon heat arrives.

Materials

The CoolFly's base material is the same as a regular tent fly - waterproof and durable Oxford fabric. On top of this fabric is a layer of highly reflective metalized PET film (Polyethylene Terephthalate), also known as Mylar. The resulting composite material has the durable and waterproof properties of a tent fly, with the additional benefits of reflecting infrared and visible light.
